Brake lines & paint

We’ve been pretty busy the past couple of weeks and didn’t really work on the bug much at all.  Most of our time has been spent editing the video from the 100AW rally and getting the engine mounted to our Sonex airplane.  However, this past weekend John and I worked on running new brake lines and painting the bottom of the body with rust converter.  All of the old lines looked like crap and we didn’t want to chance having any leaks so we replaced all of the metal and rubber lines.  My line bender works fine, but I wish it would make some tighter bends.  Most of the factory bends are about a 1″ radius and my bender makes 1.5″-2″ bends, therefore I had to do a bit of hand manipulation to get the lines to fit properly.  While I was cursing at the brake lines John was cleaning the bottom of the body where it meets the floor pan.  After he was done cleaning I mixed up some rust converter solution and painted it on the body while lying on the garage floor.

Hopefully I can finish bending up the front brake lines in the next week and then work on fabricating some mounts for the new pedals.

Rear control arms, bearings, & disc brakes

I spent most of this past weekend working on the rear of the bug.  On Saturday I pressed in new wheel bearings into the rear control arms and on Sunday I installed the shocks and rear disc brakes.  We still need to run new brake lines and run the e-brake cables thru the tubes from the calipers to the hand brake assembly.
