Seats have arrived, more parts on order…

The seats have arrived from Check Point and it’s going to be a tight fit in the little bug.  The OMP RS PT seat is about the smallest seat I could find, but it’s still going to be snug in there with the cage.

In preparation for the cage going in I sprayed a light coat of primer inside the car to cover up the bare metal and my seam welding.  It hasn’t been very humid the past few months so the metal wasn’t rusting, but in the past week some of the welds started to show just a tiny bit of rust so I put some rust converter over them and then sealed it with the encapsulator.  Hopefully Scott won’t complain much about sanding down the cage pad areas.

I’ve got the new trans coming in this week, some new fuel line, stock fuel tank, and 4 VW steel wheels.  If I can get the tires mounted John and I will be able to push the frame under the body and finally have a rolling car.

Brake lines finished / new shift rod bushing

Our 1st rallyx event was canceled this past Sunday, so that gave John and I some time to work on the bug.  It’s a shame the event didn’t happen, because the weather was perfect on Sunday, but 4″ of rain on a field isn’t good the days leading up to an event.

I finally installed the 2psi residual valves on the brake master cylinder and ran some hard lines to the front calipers.  All that needs to be done now is mount the pedals to the floor.  But that will need to wait until the body is back down on the frame.

Late Sunday night John helped me remove the old shift rod bushing (it was trashed) and pushed a new on into the slot inside the center tunnel.  It really would have helped if we had a 12 year old to do the labor, because trying to cram your hand into the tunnel thru the shift hole is almost impossible.

Ohh and we also ordered our racing seats.  OMP RS.PT from Check Point racing.  www.cp-racing.com  I got a chance to sit in one at the 100 Acre Wood rally and they are very nice.  The head wings were very important to me and I’ll also order a set of nets to support the wings and shoulder area.
