Tonight I worked on getting the two front brake lines bent up. John also helped me get the dual mc brake cluster re-mounted and the clutch mc mounted. I also cut up some square tube and welded in some lateral seat mounts. Since we moved the pedals a bit forward we needed to re-mount the driver’s seat forward as well. John will be doing that this weekend as I’ll be flying with my father in our VW powered Sonex experimental airplane.
My dad was over last night and we got almost all the wiring finished. All that’s left is wiring up the fuel pump and connecting a ground wire to the horn button. Tonight John and I are going to work on re-mounting the driver’s seat and getting the pedal cluster & master cylinder hooked up. After that we need to prep the car to install the old engine.
My Dad came over this evening to help us out with more of the wiring. We almost have all of the gauges, fuses, and switches wired up. He’s going to come over tomorrow night and we hope to get the dash panel all finished. Then all we need to do is finish up the stock harness from the fuse block forward. Everything from the fuse block to the rear is complete.
Saturday my father came over to help us out install a completely new wiring harness. We spent some time cleaning the contacts on the old fuse panel, and the old switches. After that we decided to start wiring the car from the rear and work our way towards the front. We also ran some new wires for the oil pressure, oil temperature, dual CHT, & dual EGT gauges. John worked on attaching the harness to the body and cleaning up the wiring with some plastic wire cover and wire ties. Dad and I traced some of the old wires in the steering column and worked on laying out the dash panel. On Sunday John and I mounted the Holley fuel pump, painted the dash panel flat black and welded a mounting plate to the front firewall for the clutch and brake pedal assembly. Hopefully we can finish up the wiring on Tuesday when my father comes over again.Â
Ohhh, we also brought over the refreshed stock engine from my Dad’s house. We’re hoping to at least use it to move the car around while we wait for our racing engine.
Our electrical parts have arrived. My father, John and I will re-wire the car this Friday and Saturday and put in a few gauges, and maybe even the old crappy engine.

We bought some cheap silver spray paint and painted the roll cage on Sunday. Sweet damn it was hot. I’ve got a bunch of parts on order, so I hope to get the rebuilt engine into the bug soon and have it running. Electrical, Paint and Engine are the big ticket items still left.
