Car prep for Rallye de Paris 2008

Mark and I are working on the car to get it ready for Rally de Paris 2008. So far the engine is out of the car, partially disassembled, and parts ordered. I am working on cleaning up the wiring in the engine bay. The wiring harness that we had was not long enough. Some of the wires would snag on parts of the engine, so I am lengthing some of the wires to make it easier in the future to work on the car and get them out of the way.

Mark made a nice engine stand out of 2×4 lumber earlier in the week. Good and cheap!  We hope to be making more power after we install new shims and raise the compression ratio.

Fire!

At last weekend’s RallyCross race, Mark was driving the rallybug hard on the course. After his run he was pulling back into the grid when he noticed someone running over. Quickly he realized that the car was on fire! See photo:

Bug on fire

With the quick thinking of a fellow competitor he got the fire under control.

Unknowingly to Mark, Oil was spraying around in the engine bay and slowly dripping onto the exhaust pipes. Once enough of it had accumulated a fire started. Luckly no damage was done to the car but we’ll have to figure out why it was happending, correct the problem, and hope it doesn’t happen at the next rally.

Our next event that we will be racing in is Rallye de Paris, over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. It should be a great race for us. Mark and I will be hopefully be going maximum attack. Check back in late November for full updates.
